There is an article here about how Wes Anderson uses the font Futura quite often in his work. It notes also, specifically to his film The Royal Tenenbaums, that he also uses Helvetica and Etheline.

Trevor Paglen
was written about in Wired recently about his photographing of CIA bases with a customised camera and lens, to quote:

“Paglen modded the lens mount on his standard-issue Canon digital SLR to accept high-powered telescope lenses ranging in focal length from 1,300 mm to 7,000 mm (a typical telephoto is about 300 mm). To capture the heavens, such lenses peer through at least 5 miles of relatively dense atmosphere. Aimed at terrestrial subjects, they magnify and distort the up to 65 miles of air, dust, and smog that hovers between camera and subject.”

UNKLE are back with a new album, War Stories, their tird album proper. But before you hear that I think you should hear the prelude to War Stories, Nights Temper EP, which I have been listening to non-stop since I got it. Download it here and enjoy it.

The art work is by 3D (aka Robert Del Naja) of Massive Attack.

UNKLE also recently created a remix of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony which is used in an advertisement for BMW, watch it here on youtube.

Also check out UNKLE’s official website, myspace and UNKLE 77.

Patrick Pantano is todays artist of choice as we continue in artists related to The White Stripes.

He photographed both the album cover art for 2003’s Elephant and 2001’s White Blood Cells. There is also a very short Wikipedia entry about him here.

Saturday

Today’s White Stripes themed artist is Ewen Spencer, who photographed the album cover art to 2005’s Get Behind Me Satan.

What’s really great about the site is that it features early, more candid photographs of The White Stripes as well as actual promotional ones too.

Also it is another example of a well designed Flash based website.

Wednesday

Continuing our White Stripes theme, todays artist is Floria Sigismondi who’s work you can see on her website, and who you can also read about on Wikipedia.

In 2005 she directed the video for Blue Orchid which apart from being a great video, should also be noted as how Jack White met his now-wife Karen Elson who featured in the video.

Tuesday

In celebration of Icky Thump the next few entries will be themed on The White Stripes.

We start with Autumn de Wilde who photographed the album art for Icky Thump and not only has she photographed some amazing album covers (Beck’s Seachange for one), but she also photographs fashion and portraits. Yea!

Autumn is also on Wikipedia and has a Myspace.

I was really excited when I saw this photo by Autumn of Wolfmother. Not because they’re a great band (great live too), but because of the LP in their hands. I have been searching for this LP for years, seriously YEARS! But I thought none existed. So seeing that made my day. The LP is the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack to the musical ‘How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying‘ which is one of my all time favourite films. Just read some of the quotes off IMDb.
